![]() | Japanese Primrose - Primula japonica ‘Miller’s Crimson‘ DESCRIPTION: Native to Japan. Belongs to the Primulaceae family. Short-lived perennial forming a rosette of oblong to spatulated, irregularly toothed, light green leaves. Stems bear 1 to 6 tiered whorls composed of 7 to 11 salverform, crimson flowers. Height: 60 cm (24 in.) Flowering: June-July CULTIVATION Zone: 4-5 Exposition: semi-shaded location but can tolerate full sun as long as the soil remains constantly moist. Soil: thrives in moist and humus-rich soils. Germination temperature: 18-22ºC (64-72ºF) Required time: 21 to 28 days Special care: Sow indoors between February 1st and March 15th. Cover with a thin layer of soil. Substrate must be kept constantly moist but not wet. Place trays at temperatures between 18 and 22ºC (64-72ºF) for 2 to 4 weeks, then at –4 to 4ºC (25 to 39ºF) for another 4 to 6 weeks. After this cold period, do not exposed the trays to high temperatures immediately. The most effective temperatures are between 5 and 12ºC (41 and 53ºC).
