High Season at the Gardens   (July 14, 2010)

The first days of July are the start of the high season in the gardens. The bloom is at its height and visitors are numerous. The gardens of the International Garden Festival will intrigue and excite visitors.

July is also the month when our program of events and activities moves into high gear. Every Sunday throughout the month the gardens welcome musicians to accompany brunch in Estevan Lodge. And on Sunday afternoons, authors provide visitors with a unique occasion to discuss their works as part of our series of literary teas.

Sunday brunches have become a tradition for the gardens and visitors. Brunch is served in the beautiful surroundings of Estevan Lodge and chef Pierre-Olivier Ferry offers a menu that is replete with flavours inspired by the gardens. Musicians from the region and beyond provide musical accompaniment. The combination provides a welcome interlude during a visit of the gardens and a peaceful outing for family and friends.

Estevan Lodge has welcomed authors and musicians for more than a century. One of the best known guests was John Buchan, the novelist and politician who served as Canada’s Governor General and created the literary awards that continue to recognize the best Canadian authors and their books. Over the past decade, the gardens have collaborated with the Carrefour de la literature, des arts et de la Culture (CLAC) to present literary teas featuring many of Québec’s best-known authors on Sunday afternoons. This year’s lineup features seven authors who will present their work from July through September. To learn more about the authors and their work, consult our web site, or better yet come to one of our literary teas this month.
