Paradise   (June 22, 2010)

The month of June is an exciting time in any gardens. Plants spring to life and begin their long and fragrant bloom.

Our gardens quite literally come to life in June. Our staff of 5 keen and committed gardeners begin the planting of the annuals in mid-June, an intense week or more of planting and watering.

The weekend of June 19 and 20 brings the gardens to life in a different way – with the arrival of the many designers participating in the 11th edition of the International Garden Festival. This year’s festival features 21 gardens created by more than 60 designers, at least 40 of whom will be in Metis to put the finishing touches on their gardens and  take part in the festivities surrounding the opening on  Saturday, June 26.

The designers are travelling from far and wide and coming with crews of friends and helpers. Designers are coming from as far away as Sydney, Australia, Berlin, Germany, Amsterdam, London, Philadelphia, New York, Toronto, Winnipeg, Montreal and Chicoutimi. They join with our workers and staff in the construction of the gardens and the celebration of their completion.

It is always exciting to welcome international visitors to Metis and to share in their exciting discovery of the gardens and the region. The theme of this year’s festival is paradise – and we like to think that we offer a paradise on a small scale – but one that inspires both creators and visitors.

Join us in celebrating the best in landscape and garden design.
